English CV: structure, sample text and ready-made phrases

An English CV is a one- or two-page document for a foreign employer: Personal statement, Work experience, Education, Skills and Languages.

In short

Section order: contact details, Personal statement (3-4 lines), Work experience, Education, Skills, Languages - one or two pages.

Do not translate word for word: «sotuvchi» is Sales Assistant, not seller.

English is expected in the UK and the Gulf; Germany wants a German Lebenslauf, Russia and Kazakhstan a Russian resume.

This page gives the section structure, English names for Uzbek job titles and duties, a full sample and the most common mistakes.

How an English CV is structured

An English CV is not a translation but a rebuild in the order the employer expects: section names, date format and the way duties are described all differ.

Uzbek sectionEnglish nameWhat to write
Shaxsiy maʼlumotlarContact detailsName, city, country, phone with +998, e-mail; the heading is your name, not «CV»
Maqsad, oʻzim haqimdaPersonal statement3-4 lines: profession, years of experience, key skill, target role
Ish tajribasiWork experienceMost recent first: title, company, city, dates, 3-5 result bullets
TaʼlimEducationInstitution, field, diploma or degree, years
KoʻnikmalarSkills6-10 specific skills: software, equipment, licence category
SertifikatlarCertificationsName, issuer, year - only relevant ones
TillarLanguagesEach language with a level: native, fluent or CEFR (B1, B2)
TavsiyalarReferencesOne line: References available on request

With experience, Work experience goes above Education; for a graduate the other way round. One page, or two after 8-10 years.

Job titles: Uzbek to English

The most common mistake is the title itself: «sotuvchi» becomes seller word for word, while adverts say Sales Assistant. Below are 15 common occupations.

UzbekEnglishNote
SotuvchiSales AssistantSales Manager - head of sales
KassirCashierShop, supermarket
HaydovchiDriverDelivery Driver, Truck Driver
BuxgalterAccountantJunior - Accounting Assistant
HamshiraNurseCare worker - Care Assistant

Use the title exactly as in the advert - the employer and the tracking system (ATS) search for that word; replace «worker» or «specialist» with the actual occupation.

Describing duties: ready-made phrases

Every bullet starts with an action verb and ends with a number: past tense for previous jobs (managed), present for the current one (manage), no «I».

Mistakes Uzbek speakers make most often

  • Word-for-word translation: instead of «I worked as a seller in the shop» write the title and the result - «Sales Assistant: served 100+ customers a day».
  • «CV» or «resume»: the UK, Europe and the Gulf say CV, the US says resume - same document. Put neither word in the heading; your name is enough.
  • Dates: DD/MM/YYYY in the UK (05/03/2026), «Jan 2026 - Present» in the Gulf and the US; 05.03.2026 is not understood.
  • Capitals: job titles, companies, months and languages take capitals (Sales Assistant, March, English); never type everything in capitals.
  • Transliterated company names: «Bahor savdo markazi» is Bahor Trade Centre, MCHJ is LLC.
  • Marital status and parents: not included in the UK or Europe.
  • Inflated language level: «fluent» on paper, silence at the interview.
  • Sending a screenshot: a text PDF is required, named Karimova_Dilnoza.pdf.

Where English is expected and where the local language is

The basic rule: write in the language of the job advert and the interview. By destination:

CountryCV languageFormat differences
United Kingdom (Skilled Worker)English, British spellingNo photo or date of birth, up to 2 pages
Gulf (UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia)EnglishPhoto, nationality, visa status, date of birth - Gulf CV
GermanyGerman - LebenslaufEnglish only in international companies; Anschreiben required - Germany
PolandEnglish or PolishRODO clause at the bottom, basis of stay stated
Korea (E-7)Korean or EnglishTable layout, photo, TOPIK - Korea
Russia, KazakhstanRussianCitizenship, work permit, willingness to relocate

Separate pages on the United Kingdom, Poland and the Europass format are in the Chet elga section.

Building an English CV in the constructor

In the constructor set the resume language to English: headings switch to English, you write the text using the phrases above, the PDF is free. In the «Chet elga» package the text entered in Uzbek or Russian is translated into English by artificial intelligence and moved into the country format - not a certified translation, so check names, titles and dates yourself. Word (DOCX) is part of the same package.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I get an English CV sample?

Use the sales assistant sample on this page: the section order is the same for every occupation, only the title, companies and results change. Choose English in the constructor and download the PDF.

Is a CV the same as a resume?

Abroad, yes: the UK and Europe say CV, the US says resume, the structure is identical. In Uzbekistan «CV» often means a long academic document for grants.

Should an English CV include a photo?

It depends on the country. The UK and the US do not use photos - employers avoid any suspicion of discrimination; the Gulf, Korea and Turkey expect one. If the advert says nothing, follow the country page.

Who translates my CV if my English is weak?

On Resum.uz the translation is done by artificial intelligence - not a certified translation. Show the result to someone who knows English, check job titles and institution names; a diploma translation still needs a notary.

Can I download the English CV as a PDF?

Yes, a CV filled in English in the constructor downloads as a free PDF with no registration; Word (DOCX) is a premium feature. Send employers a text PDF, never a picture.

How do I state my language level?

In Languages list each language with a level: Uzbek - native, Russian - fluent, English - B1; add a certificate such as IELTS 6.0. Do not inflate the level - the interview may be held in that language.
